DA defends KZN communities’ decision to control access to protest circles – SABC News

The KwaZulu-Natal Democratic Alliance (DA) defended a decision by several communities in Durban who came together to protect themselves, control access to areas and hold checkpoints.

The dean of the Macpherson party said that until there were large South African Police and National Defense Forces (ANDFs) on the ground, communities have been left to fend for themselves.

Macpherson says, “I want to make it clear that until we see a significant deployment of SAPS and SANDF troops on the ground, there is simply no way our communities cannot be left to their own devices- same. at the mercy of looters against rioters, these barricades and checkpoints are the only line of defense many of our communities have across the province and in eThekwini.
